What new ideas does Nintendo have for the DS and DSi?

Nintendo has filed a ton of DS and Nintendo DSi-related patents in Japan that were just revealed to the public from the Japanese trademark database. The patents are probably not necessarily representative of actual features that they will be incorporating into the DSi, but rather they are protective copyrights. They are ensuring that they will own the copyright just in case they to go down that path.

You will notice a ton of interesting names including DSiChannel, DSiMovie, DSiMusic, DSiNews, DSiCreator, DSiMobile and a whole lot more.

Nintendo also filed patents for “Friends Collection” which could be the English name of a Japanese DS game (literally translated as “Friend Connection”) in which you interact with Mii versions of famous Nintendo personalities including Shigeru Miyamoto, Satoru Iwata and Reggie Fils-Aime!

Other trademarks include one for a 3D Picross game, which is probably related to Ritai Picross (translates literally as “Solid Object Picross) which Nintendo will probably be bringing overseas and a mysterious logo for “Ku?o?” spelled out in katakana as “kyubosu”, which is most likely an upcoming WiiWare title.
