EA Sports peripherals coming bundled with games in 2009

Let's hope EA doesn't drag it's feet, for the Wii's sakeDo you love peripherals? Well you better because EA Sports is planning to bundle peripherals with some of it’s sports games in the not to distant future, courtesy of Peter Moore’s division.

EA Sports Executive Producer and Vice President David McCarthy said during his Paris GDC lecture, “I think you’ll see games using that Rock Band peripheral strategy from EA Sports, even within the next 12 months.”

And he additionally said, “One of the things we’re doing is looking at just playing with the Wii remote in a different way, using a whole new peripheral that’s out there, kind of thing. So, basically enabling control for the user in a much different way,” McCarthy said, adding, “we are prototyping stuff that really does allow us to play with the Wii remote differently.”

3-in-1 Wii Sports PackSo it looks like we may be having some, “legit” plastic shell peripherals for the Wii from the big companies. That is, assuming other companies follow in EA Sports lead. It’ll be interesting to see though if these peripherals are well thought out and actually add a new dimension to their games, or if they’ll be another throw-away plastic casing like so many of the third-party peripherals available for the Wii.
