Little over two weeks after the worldwide release of Burnout Paradise on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the developers at Electronic Arts and Criterion have announced downloadable content for the fifth Burnout racing game. In an MTV interview they made it clear the upcoming downloadable content would not split up the online community between buyers of the extra virtual concrete and freeloaders who would otherwise be left behind in the dust.
To quote the explanation: “It’s our intention to extend the life of Burnout with additional DLC in the near future. As mentioned, we don’t want to split the online community between those that have content and those that don’t. Our intention is to offer both free and paid for DLC in a way that enables everyone to ‘see’ the content, even if they have not paid for it.” Electronic Arts wouldn’t explain how they intend to execute this approach to downloadable content distribution. I’m guessing this might mean non-payers can drive the new roads, but not unlock any new achievements nor events, or perhaps you can see the road but not drive due to roadblocks it until you pay up in-game?
