Sega Master System joins Wii Virtual Console lineup of NES, Genesis, TurboGrafx, SNES, N64, NEOGEO, MSX and PC games

In Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console download service, you can get classics from the NES (Famicom), TurboGrafx-16 (PC Engine), Sega Genesis (Mega Drive), SNES (Super Famicom), Nintendo 64, and NEOGEO.

It was revealed today that Sega Master System games will be offered on the Japanese Virtual Console starting in February 2008, with other territories to follow. The first 8-bit games are Fantasy Zone (for 500 Wii Points) and Fist of the North Star (for 600 Wii Points; 100 more because of licenses).

Because 1986 Sega Master System uses identical hardware to 1990’s Game Gear and 1985’s Sega Mark III, games from that handheld and console could make it to the Wii Virtual Console as well!

Nintendo of Japan has shown in the past that the MSX games will be joining that list sometime with Eggy and Aleste (from D4 Enterprise). And the American PC games Jewel Quest II and Sproink (from iWin/21 Rocks) were listed for the service as well, although they might end up on the upcoming (in March 2008) WiiWare game download service, instead of through PC emulation on the Virtual Console. — Via Nintendowiifanboy
